In a significant move towards a greener and more sustainable future, a groundbreaking partnership has been forged to equip Nigeria’s youth with the skills needed to lead the nation’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution. The Youth in Parliament Forum (YIPF) has teamed up with CAWIN Mobility Limited to launch a free training program that will empower 2,000 Nigerian youths in the vital fields of electric vehicle maintenance and manufacturing.
This initiative is a direct response to the growing global transition towards renewable energy and green transportation. By focusing on training a skilled workforce, Nigeria is ensuring it is not left behind. The program is specifically designed to prepare the next generation to service, maintain, and even contribute to the local assembly of electric vehicles as they become more common on Nigerian roads.
The training program will be comprehensive, targeting 1,000 engineering students and 1,000 mechanics from across the country. According to Tony Nwulu, the Director General of YIPF, this project represents a “historic milestone” that will position Nigerian youths at the forefront of sustainable mobility. CAWIN Mobility’s Managing Director, Wayne Ji, highlighted the goal of creating a complete EV ecosystem in Nigeria, which includes not only training but also the establishment of charging infrastructure and after-sales support.
In addition to the youth training, the partnership also introduced the Lawmakers Car Acquisition Scheme (LCAS), which will provide federal lawmakers with affordable access to electric and conventional vehicles. This dual-pronged approach aims to both promote the adoption of cleaner transportation and empower the youth, creating a ripple effect of progress.
This collaboration is more than just a training program; it is an investment in Nigeria’s future. By equipping young people with cutting-edge technical skills, the initiative promises to create new job opportunities, foster economic diversification, and solidify Nigeria’s place in the global push towards a cleaner, more sustainable world.
